Tirupathur district is a district of Tamil Nadu, India, formed by trifuricating the Vellore district. The Government of Tamil Nadu has announced its proposal on August 15, 2019, together with Ranipet district. However it was officially declared on November 28, 2019 by Chief Minister. The town of Tirupathur would serve as the district headquarters.The district has favorable agro climatic condition for raising different kinds of Horticulture crops like fruits, Vegetables and flower crops. The total geographical area of the district is 1,22,519.03 hectares and the net sown area is 60,309.80 hectares which constitutes 49% of the total geographical area of the district. The area under Horticulture crops is 10523.18 hectares which occupies 17 % of the net sown area. Tirupathur has a tropical climate suitable for tropical fruits, Vegetables and flowers. Of this more than 60% of the area is rainfed and the balance area is catered through irrigation sources viz wells, canals and tanks. There is absence of surface water irrigation in the district. Efforts are initiated by the department of horticulture to increase the area under horticulture crops by way of irrigation through drip system. Among the Fruit crops mango constitutes 65% of area under fruit crops. Many improved varieties are being introduced in the district through NHM scheme. In the district almost all the vegetables are grown, Brinjal, Bhendi, Tomato, Onion, Greens, Colocasia, Tapioca, Gourds, Beans etc are the major crops in terms of coverage of area and production. Among spices, Turmeric, Chilies & Tamarind occupies major area. Flowers are largely grown in the district. Jasmine kinds, Crossandra, Tuberoses, and Chrysanthemum & Roses are popular among flowers.
